A healthy work-life balance: often sought-after, yet rarely achieved. While achieving a good work-life balance may sometimes seem to be an elusive goal, it certainly is one worth striving for. Research has shown that having a healthy work-life balance can help to prevent occupational burnout, reduce stress in employees, and can even help them to enjoy their work more!
Burnout and stress have a direct negative impact on employees’ mental, physical, and relational health. Overall job performance has been shown to decrease with higher levels of stress; this means that it is beneficial to a company when its leadership chooses to promote healthy rhythms and practices when it comes to balancing both a job and a fulfilling life outside of work.
Here at Mantooth, we are proud to have incredible clients who are leading experts in their fields. We often feel that we have learned more from our clients than we have taught them – so, we decided to ask our clients about what they do to create a work environment where a healthy work-life balance is both encouraged and supported. Here’s what they had to say!
“Although my role often finds me always thinking about work when I am off, because I love what I do, I find that I can’t believe they pay me to do this. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like work. I do enjoy time away from the office, though. I have assembled a great team that allows me to leave without a worry that the ship will sink.
I get my solitude by spending time with my family, playing the piano, photography, hiking, and enjoying the great outdoors. Here is a photo I recently took. It is a photo representing minimalism. This is how I spend my time – I am usually behind the camera.”
- Anthony J. Schirer, MBA (Coach, Mentor, Subject Matter Expert, Executive Director at Cheyenne OBGYN)
“I think it’s always best to look at this as Work/Life Choices!”
- Kirk Bane (President, Integrated Computer Consulting)
"At Houska Automotive, we are serious about fixing cars and trucks, but also recognize the importance of getting away from work and experiencing our great world. All work and no play is no good for anyone.
Personally, I'm an avid outdoorsman. I like skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, white water rafting, and camping. I really like an adventure vacation where I'm out in the woods or on a river or trail for multiple days in a row. It takes a lot of planning and prep, but it's well worth it. The best part is that most of my hobbies I do with my family. Once back at the shop, I feel mentally rested and ready to focus on running the business to the best of my ability.
I encourage my employees to take time off and find what gives them the same mental rest that I get with my adventures. If everyone on the team has a good work-life balance, it makes the group stronger and happier. At the end of the day that is what makes life worth living."
- LJ Houska (Vice President, Houska Automotive)
"We close by 6 p.m. so that our crew has time to be outside in the daylight. We like everyone to be able to participate in any activities that they enjoy, especially outside!"
- Randy Morgan (Owner, Outpost Sunsport)
At Mantooth Company, we also fight hard to prioritize a healthy work-life balance. It’s just as LJ Houska so wisely observed – we know that our office will be stronger and happier when our team is actively engaging in fulfilling activities outside of work.
Below are some photos of the Mantooth team doing what they love – we hope they inspire you to get out and experience the world outside of your office walls!
