Domestic violence is a difficult topic to discuss. Often, victims experiencing abusive relationships remain silent out of fear of suffering possible repercussions from their partner after speaking up. But, not this month.

In recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Crossroads Safehouse is committed to spreading awareness about this very serious issue that plagues our society. Crossroads Safehouse is a local nonprofit that has served northern Colorado for 40 years providing safety and resources to victims of domestic violence.

To kick the month off, Crossroads Safehouse Development Director, Jacqueline Tiley, met with the City of Fort Collins and Mayor Wade Troxell for the proclamation of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Dedicating the month to speaking up and shining light on this widespread yet often underdiscussed issue is vital to ending the vicious cycle that domestic violence perpetuates.

While the Crossroads Safehouse staff and volunteers work hard year-round to spread awareness of their offerings, this month they are asking for participation from community members to show up and support their mission at their inaugural Prohibition Party on Saturday, October 19 at the Fort Collins Hilton from 6-10 p.m. Bringing the heavy topic of domestic violence out from the silence of the dark, the Prohibition Party will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about how you can help victims in need while also having a little bit of fun. True to the era, this event will have speak easy vibes with secret entrances, dance lessons and live music by Bianca Flyboys.
